I look forward to working with a studio whose brand stands for bold, original, and risk-taking storytelling.”

Lionsgate Television executives Courtney Mock and Tara Joshi will oversee the Oldboy series. While the original film was later remade into a movie in 2013, starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Samuel L. Jackson, this marks the first time the property will be adapted into an English-language series.

Herbst promised that the series adaptation of Oldboy will capture the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes, and visceral style that made the film a classic.

Oldboy, directed by Park and released in 2003, is a gripping revenge story based on the ’90s manga of the same name. The film not only resonated with comic and manga readers but also became a significant milestone in action filmmaking. Its iconic one-take hallway fight scene is widely recognized, even by those who have not seen the film.

For fans of Oldboy and those interested in exploring comic book adaptations beyond superheroes, this upcoming series is sure to be highly anticipated. As we await further updates on the release date, it’s worth revisiting Park’s classic action flick, which continues to captivate audiences with its intensity and artistry.
