Seventh-Highest-Earning Animated Franchise Worldwide

In just two weeks since its release, Kung Fu Panda 4 has become the seventh-highest-earning animated franchise worldwide. This accomplishment is particularly notable as it is the third series from DreamWorks Animation to surpass the $2 billion mark, following the success of Shrek ($3.972B) and Madagascar ($2.257B).

Box Office Success Despite Mixed Reviews

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Kung Fu Panda 4 has proven its box office success. It opened with an impressive $58 million, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2024, only behind Dune: Part Two. The film continued to dominate the box office in its second weekend, earning an additional $30 million. Its global earnings currently stand at $179 million, with $109 million from domestic sales and $69 million internationally.

Critics may have had their doubts about the franchise’s popularity, but Kung Fu Panda 4 has proven them wrong. Despite having the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score in the series at 72%, the film had the strongest opening in 16 years and has already surpassed half of the original movie’s total domestic earnings. Surpassing the $2 billion milestone globally further solidifies the franchise’s resilience.
