The Largest Film Selection in Fantaspoa’s History

Fantaspoa’s 20th edition will showcase a remarkable lineup of 114 feature films, including 22 world premieres. This is the largest number of feature films ever presented in the history of the festival. From horror to fantasy, the diverse selection promises to offer audiences a range of cinematic experiences that delve into the fringes of imagination.

Additionally, Fantaspoa will screen 123 short films, bringing the total number of participating works to an impressive 237. This makes the 20th edition of Fantaspoa the largest in its history, providing film enthusiasts with an abundance of thrilling and captivating content.

A Spectacular Lineup of Competition Titles

The final selection of feature films for Fantaspoa’s highly-anticipated 20th edition has been exclusively revealed. The festival has divided the films into seven distinct competitive categories: International, Ibero-American, National, Documentary, Animation, All-Nighter, and Low Budget, Great Films. These categories promise to offer audiences a diverse range of cinematic experiences, delving into the fringes of horror and fantasy while exploring the depths of the human imagination.

The lineup of competition titles is nothing short of spectacular. It includes the international premiere of E.L. Katz’s SXSW charmer “Azrael” and the world premiere of “Consumed,” a thrilling new film from The Butcher Brothers starring Devon Sawa. Fantaspoa is also proud to present a diverse selection of special screenings, such as Demián Rugna’s recent Argentinian hit “When Evil Lurks,” with the writer/director himself in attendance. The festival will also feature special screenings of two Argentine films, “Jorge & Alberto Versus the Neoliberal Demons” and “Trenque Lauquen,” both of which have garnered critical acclaim.

Special Screenings and Notable Guests

One of the highlights of Fantaspoa XX will be a special screening of Robin Hardy’s classic British folk horror film “The Wicker Man” from 1973. This screening will be attended by the director’s sons, Justin and Dominic, who will also be present for the world premiere of their documentary “Children of the Wicker Man.” This documentary offers a unique perspective on the lasting legacy of this cinematic masterpiece.

The festival has confirmed an impressive lineup of guests, including filmmakers and actors from around the world. Some of the notable guests include Alejo Rébora and Daniela Jimenez, Paulo Caldas, Jaco Bouwer, Karim Lakzadeh and Arash Jooyandeh, Ryan Ward and Mackenzie Leigh, Nando Martínez, Mike McCutchen and JJ Weber, Mario Mayo and Jaime Arnaiz, Roger Elarrat, Mike Hermosa, Gonzalo Quintana and Hernán Quintana, Benjamin Pfohl, Gabriel Papaléo, Igor Bastos, Armando Fonseca, Julio Cesar Napoli, Gonzalo López-Gallego, Máncel Martínez, Guto Parente, Juliana Muras, Kenichi Ugana, and Demián Rugna.

The 20th edition of Fantaspoa will take place from April 10 to 28, 2024. The festival is presented by the Ministry of Culture, Fantaspoa Productions, and Instituto Ling, with sponsorship from Crown Embalagens, America Embalagens, and Banrisul.
