Zeenat Aman began her post by recounting a recent incident where she was horrified to see an elderly elephant suffering on a movie set. The elephant was standing on burning asphalt, adorned with jewelry and decorations, while cameras rolled all day. Despite feeling guilt-ridden, Zeenat was contractually obligated to continue her work. She expressed her sadness at the fact that such a majestic animal had to suffer for the sake of entertainment.
The actress then made an urgent appeal to her colleagues in the film industry, asking them to avoid bringing wild animals onto sets at all costs. She highlighted the fact that India is home to the majority of the Asian elephant population and that the species is considered the country’s National Heritage Animal. Zeenat also mentioned the presence of numerous organizations in India dedicated to the welfare and conservation of these incredible creatures.
To support her plea, Zeenat shared resources from these organizations on her Instagram stories, encouraging her followers to learn more about their work. She emphasized the importance of protecting and respecting wildlife, especially those that hold such significance to India’s heritage.
In her post, Zeenat Aman also shared a snippet from a 1974 newspaper article, showcasing her long-standing concern for wildlife welfare. She expressed her gratitude for being in a position to make more concerted appeals on these matters now.
Unable to bear witnessing the mistreatment of the elephants on set, Zeenat shared a picture of herself holding figurines of elephants that she has collected over the years. These figurines symbolize her love and respect for these magnificent creatures.
Apart from her advocacy for animal welfare, Zeenat Aman is also busy with her upcoming film, ‘Bun Tikki’, in which she will be seen alongside Abhay Deol and Shabana Azmi.
Zeenat Aman’s plea for the better treatment of animals on film sets is a reminder that the entertainment industry should prioritize the well-being of all living beings involved in their productions. It is a call to action for everyone to respect and protect wildlife, ensuring that they are not subjected to unnecessary suffering for the sake of entertainment.
In a society that often overlooks the mistreatment of animals for the sake of tradition or entertainment, Zeenat Aman’s message serves as a wake-up call to reconsider our actions and make more compassionate choices. As she rightly questions, “Society is uptight about so many things! Log kya kahenge?” It is time to challenge societal norms and prioritize the welfare of all living beings, including the animals that share our planet.
