Jack Black Open to School of Rock Sequel
Actor and comedian Jack Black has expressed his willingness to do a sequel to the popular film School of Rock, but with one condition: the original film’s writer, Mike White, must be involved. Released in 2003 and directed by Richard Linklater, School of Rock follows the story of Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black), an amateur rock enthusiast who pretends to be a substitute teacher at a prestigious school.

When asked about the possibility of a School of Rock 2, Jack Black enthusiastically stated that he was “ready” for it. He humorously referred to the 1984 sequel to the dance musical Breakin’ by saying, “I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo.” However, Black emphasized the importance of having Mike White on board to write the sequel. Unfortunately, White is currently occupied with his work on the hit HBO dark comedy series, The White Lotus.
Black praised White as a genius and insisted that his involvement in the project was crucial. He acknowledged that White had written the first film and expressed his desire to have him back in the saddle for the sequel. Despite Black’s enthusiasm, there is no confirmation yet on whether a School of Rock sequel will be greenlit.
School of Rock’s Critical Acclaim and Commercial Success
School of Rock received both critical acclaim and commercial success upon its release. The film was later adapted into a successful Broadway musical. The cast of the original film included Mike White, Sarah Silverman, Joan Cusack, Stephanie Finochio, Kevin Clark, Miranda Cosgrove, and Rivkah Reyes.
Fans of School of Rock will have to wait and see if a sequel will come to fruition. In the meantime, they can enjoy the Broadway musical adaptation and appreciate the talent and humor of Jack Black in the original film.
